About Us

The experience UKR have in the insurance building repair industry in our opinion is second to none. Les Hurlock our managing director was involved at the genesis of the formation of contractor networks with Prudential in 1993 and with his colleague Paul Dollard at Rainbow Design and Contracts with Norwich Union. Both of these men were the pioneers of some of the myriad of different schemes and contractor networks there are today.

Les Hurlock went on to pilot the Contractor Network for Churchill Insurance known as the BCN with Graham Keatley among others. Les was involved in drafting one of the first schedule of rates for a contractor network with some of the Prudential PIA's. This particular schedule of rates in amended form is currently still in use.

Our staff have of course benefitted from all this experience and are comfortable with the ebb and flow of our day to day business including major events and claims surges.

Bunsfield explosion

Pictured above is our managing director Les Hurlock hours after the Bunsfield explosion in Hemel Hempstead in December 2005. Is he thinking of joining the Police Force? Is he going to get a cup of tea and a sandwich? Or is he contemplating the huge task ahead? Well he must have been contemplating the task ahead. After this picture was taken we went on to complete works on 170 plus blast damaged properties with director Penny Hurlock heading up a special office in order to accommodate these claims.

Oxford floods

In October 2009 to end of September 2010 we recorded zero complaints

In 2007 UKR were one of a handful of Contractors chosen by the RBSI to ring fence the vast number of flood claims in the Reading and Oxford areas pictured above. We went on to reinstate 120 plus properties including asbestos removal, drying, removals and storage. Jo Williams, at our Reading office heading up a separate department for the administration and project management of these claims.

In 2008 our procedures and I.T. were totally reviewed and updated the result of these changes were very successful. From October 2009 to the end of September 2010 we recorded zero complaints which is an achievement we are very proud of.

Health and Safety

All our staff are health and safety aware with 100% being qualified first aider's as well as the Company being CHAS and Safe Contractor accredited.

What now?

The future in what sometimes can be a difficult environment of extremely high standard customer service and financial restraint will be challenging, however we have all the attributes and dynamism to meet these challenges and are looking to the future with optimism.
